What Happened?

The Mumbai Police have launched an inquiry against well-known podcaster and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly recognized for his channel BeerBiceps, following complaints over his controversial remarks on the show India’s Got Latent.

The controversy erupted after Allahbadia participated in a recent episode of India’s Got Latent, a show hosted by comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina. Other prominent content creators, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Dikshit, were also present during the episode.

During the show,

Allahbadia allegedly made obscene comments about parents, women, and their body parts, triggering outrage among viewers and legal professionals. The comments led to a formal complaint by two Mumbai-based lawyers, Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, who demanded police action against all those involved in producing and airing the episode.

Police Response?

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 9, Mumbai, Gedam, confirmed that an inquiry is underway into the matter. On Monday afternoon, a police team visited Khar’s Habitat building, where the show was filmed, as part of their investigation.

While no FIR (First Information Report) has been registered yet, the complainants insist on legal action against the show’s organizers, the online platform hosting the content, and the artists involved.

What’s Next?

This incident highlights the growing scrutiny of digital content in India, where public figures are increasingly held accountable for their statements. While stand-up comedy and online content often push boundaries, the legal and social repercussions of controversial remarks continue to spark debates on freedom of speech versus responsible content creation.

As the Mumbai Police continue their inquiry, it remains to be seen whether the case will escalate into a formal FIR or if a resolution will be reached through other means.
